Geum japonicum, known as Asian herb bennet, is a yellow-flowering perennial plant native to North America and East Asia, especially Japan. It may be synonymous with Geum macrophyllum, the North American flower. As a traditional herbal remedy it is known as an astringent and used in poultices. However, in recent years, the Thunberg variant has received attention for other possible medical uses.

Description

Geum japonicum, a member of the Rosaceae family, is a perennial herb native to regions including North America and East Asia. It is distributed across North-Central and South-Central China, Southeast China, Japan, Korea, the Kuril Islands, and Xinjiang. The species was first described in 1784 by Carl Peter Thunberg. This plant is characterized by its yellow flowers and has a history of use in traditional medicine as an astringent, particularly in poultices. Recent studies have also explored potential additional medical applications for the Thunberg variant of this species. It may be considered synonymous with Geum macrophyllum, which is found in North America.
