Hordeum marinum, known as Geniculate Barley, is a species in the grass family Poaceae. It is an annual plant found on bare ground along European and North African coasts, as well as inland salt flats like the Pannonian grasslands. It has spread to temperate regions globally. It does not persist in competitive environments and has no direct agricultural use.

Description

Hordeum marinum is a flowering grass species native to coastal and salt flat habitats in Europe and North Africa. It is an annual plant that produces large amounts of seed under favorable conditions. While it is closely related to cultivated barley, it has no known utility. The species is widely naturalized in temperate regions outside its native range. It is commonly referred to as Geniculate Barley in English.
