Gazania krebsiana is a flowering plant in the Asteraceae family, native to Southern Africa. It grows in regions including Angola, Zambia, Mozambique, and South Africa. The species is one of approximately 19 Gazania species found exclusively in Africa, with most concentrated in South Africa. One subspecies, Gazania krebsiana subsp. serrulata, extends northward into tropical Africa.
Description
Gazania krebsiana is a low-growing, herbaceous perennial plant. It is part of the daisy family (Asteraceae) and is native to Southern Africa. Its natural range includes Angola, Botswana, the Cape Provinces, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Lesotho, Mozambique, Northern Provinces, Swaziland, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The species was first described in 1832. Among the 19 Gazania species, most are found in South Africa, with only Gazania krebsiana subsp. serrulata extending into tropical Africa north of the Transvaal.
