Gastrodia javanica is an epiparasitic orchid species found in Southeast Asia. It is distributed across Thailand, Borneo, Java, the Lesser Sunda Islands, Malaya, the Philippines, and Sumatra. This orchid typically reaches a height of 20 to 80 centimeters and features pale yellow or green-yellow flowers.

Description

Gastrodia javanica, known as Javanese chijian, is a member of the Orchidaceae family. It is an epiparasitic orchid, meaning it relies on other plants for nutrients. The species is native to several regions in Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Borneo, Java, the Lesser Sunda Islands, Malaya, the Philippines, and Sumatra. It was first described in 1840 by Lindl., based on earlier work by Blume. The plant typically grows between 20 and 80 centimeters tall and is characterized by its pale yellow or green-yellow flowers.
