Barringtonia acutangula is a species of the genus Barringtonia in the family Lecythidaceae. It is native to coastal wetlands in southern Asia and northern Australasia, with a distribution that includes regions such as Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Australia. The plant is commonly known as freshwater mangrove in English and other languages.

Description

Barringtonia acutangula, described by Gaertn. in 1791, is found in coastal wetland habitats. It is distributed across southern Asia and northern Australasia, including areas such as Assam, Borneo, Cambodia, Jawa, Laos, Malaya, Myanmar, New Guinea, Pakistan, Queensland, Sri Lanka, Sulawesi, Sumatera, and Thailand. Other common names for this species include itchytree and mango-pine. The species belongs to the Lecythidaceae family, a group of flowering plants primarily found in tropical regions.
