Micranthes foliolosa is a member of the Saxifragaceae family and is widely distributed across northern regions of North America and parts of Russia. It is found in Greenland, Labrador, Newfoundland, British Columbia, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Quebec, Yukon, and Colorado. The species is also present in the Aleutian Islands and several regions in Russia, including Altay, Amur, Buryatiya, and Chita. The species was formally published in 2007.
