Sparganium angustifolium, known as Floating Bur-Reed, is a species in the Typhaceae family. It is a perennial aquatic plant with a circumboreal distribution, found in the northern latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere. It grows in acidic, low-nutrient freshwater environments such as ponds, lakes, and slow-moving streams, often reaching depths of up to 2.5 meters. The plant has long, narrow, flattened leaves and produces floating stems. It is monoecious, with male and female inflorescences on the same plant, forming spherical clusters of stamens and developing fruits.

Description

Sparganium angustifolium is a flowering plant species in the Typhaceae family. It is native to regions such as Greenland, Labrador, Newfoundland, and parts of Canada and the United States. It is also found in Portugal Continental, the Nearctic, Oriental (Indomalaya), and Palaearctic regions. This aquatic plant thrives in freshwater habitats, including ponds, lakes, and slow-moving streams, often in acidic and low-nutrient conditions. It can grow in water up to 2.5 meters deep and may form dense surface cover. The plant is perennial and has long, narrow, flattened leaves that can extend over two meters in length. It is monoecious, with spherical male and female inflorescences. The male inflorescence consists of stamens, while the female inflorescence contains developing fruits. The species was first described in 1803.
