Hyparrhenia filipendula is a perennial bunchgrass species that can reach a height of 1 to 1.5 metres. It is known by several common names, including fine thatching grass.

Description

Hyparrhenia filipendula, a member of the Poaceae family, is a perennial grass that grows in dense clumps. It is native to various regions across Africa and parts of Asia, including Angola, Botswana, Burkina, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Provinces, Caprivi Strip, Central African Republic, Chad, China South-Central, Congo, Ethiopia, Free State, Gabon, Guinea, Jawa, Kenya, KwaZulu-Natal, Lesser Sunda Is., and Madagascar. This grass species is also referred to as Tambookie grass and fine hood grass. It was first described in 1919.
