Persicaria extremiorientalis, known as Far Eastern Smartweed, is a species in the Polygonaceae family. It is native to Japan, Korea, and far eastern Russia and has been introduced to the eastern United States, where it is found from North Carolina to Massachusetts.

Persicaria extremiorientalis (Vorosch.) Tzvelev is a member of the buckwheat family, Polygonaceae. This species is native to regions including Japan, Korea, and far eastern Russia. It has also been introduced to parts of the eastern United States, occurring in states such as North Carolina, Massachusetts, and others in between. The plant was first described in 1987.
