Rhynchocalyx lawsonioides, known as false-waterberry, is a small flowering tree and the only species in the genus Rhynchocalyx. Once classified in the monogeneric family Rhynchocalycaceae, it is now placed within the Penaeaceae family under the APG III system. It is endemic to the KwaZulu-Cape coastal forest mosaic ecoregion in South Africa.

Description

Rhynchocalyx lawsonioides is a flowering tree species native to the coastal forests of South Africa, specifically the KwaZulu-Cape region. It was previously the sole member of the Rhynchocalycaceae family but is now grouped with other genera, including Olinia, in the expanded Penaeaceae family. The species was first described in 1894 and is found in the Natal and Eastern Cape provinces. Its distribution is limited to this specific ecoregion, making it an important part of the local flora.
