Picea jezoensis (Siebold & Zucc.) Carrière

Picea jezoensis, known as ezo spruce, is a large evergreen tree reaching 30–50 m in height with a trunk diameter of up to 2 m. It is native to northeast Asia, including central Japan, the Changbai Mountains, and parts of Siberia such as the Sikhote-Alin, Kuril Islands, Sakhalin, and Kamchatka. This species thrives in cold, humid temperate rain forests and is never more than 400 km from the Pacific Ocean. The specific name jezoensis is derived from Ezo, an old term for Hokkaido and surrounding islands.
Description
Picea jezoensis is a member of the Pinaceae family and is distributed across Japan, Kamchatka, Khabarovsk, Korea, Kuril Is., Magadan, Manchuria, Primorye, and Sakhalin. It was first described in 1855. The tree is adapted to temperate rainforest environments and is commonly found in regions with high humidity and cold climates. Its range is closely tied to the Pacific coastal areas of northeast Asia.
