Heliotropium indicum L., a member of the Heliotropiaceae family, is an annual, hirsute plant with small curved flowers and broad green leaves. It is commonly known as Indian heliotrope or Indian turnsole. The species is widely distributed across several regions, including parts of Colombia, Brazil, and other areas in the Afrotropical, Neotropical, Oriental (Indomalaya), and other biogeographic regions.
Description
Heliotropium indicum is found in a variety of locations, including the departments of Atlántico, Bolívar, Caldas, Chocó, and others in Colombia, as well as in Brazil and several other countries. It is associated with various protected areas such as the Parque Nacional Natural Tayrona and Parque Nacional Natural Sierra de la Macarena. The species was first published in 1753 by Linnaeus. It is characterized by its hairy texture and small, clustered flowers, and is part of the genus Heliotropium. The plant is also known by the common name 'Eye Bright' in English.
