Description
Myriophyllum spicatum belongs to the family Haloragaceae and is commonly known as Eurasian Spiked Water-Milfoil. It is a submerged aquatic plant that has been reported in regions such as British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, and the United States, as well as in parts of Europe, Africa, and Asia. The plant was first described in 1753. Taxonomic clarification of the species has been addressed in botanical literature, with Aiken & McNeill designating a lectotype in 1980 after reviewing original materials. The species has a broad geographic range, extending from northern Canada to South Africa, and is recognized for its invasive potential in various aquatic ecosystems.
