Elodea nuttallii, commonly known as Esthwaite Water-Weed, is a perennial aquatic plant native to North America. It grows submersed in lakes, rivers, and shallow water bodies. While it is not a weed in its native range, it has become weedy in parts of Eurasia. It is occasionally used as an aquarium plant.

Description

Elodea nuttallii (Planch.) H.St.John is a member of the Hydrocharitaceae family. It is distributed across several regions including Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and parts of Europe such as Belgium, France, the Netherlands, and Great Britain. First published in 1920, this species is known for its submersed growth habit and is often found in freshwater environments. It is distinct from other Elodea species by its characteristics and ecological behavior. Outside its native range, it has become invasive in some areas, particularly in Europe.
