Epimedium platypetalum
Epimedium platypetalum K.Mey.

Epimedium platypetalum K.Mey., a member of the Berberidaceae family, is native to North-Central and South-Central China. It was first described in 1922. The plant features a flowering stem 25–35 cm long, with basal and cauline trifoliolate leaves. The leaflets are subrounded, with a deeply cordate base and spinose-serrate margins. The inflorescence is a raceme bearing 2–6 yellow flowers, each about 10 mm in diameter, and is nearly glabrous. The flowers are spurless, with four purple-red inner sepals and four yellow petals.
Description
Epimedium platypetalum has a thin rhizome, 1–3 mm in diameter, and a flowering stem that may bear one trifoliolate leaf or occasionally two opposite leaves. The leaves are trifoliolate, with the terminal leaflet having equal rounded lobes and the lateral leaflets oblique, with a larger outer lobe and a smaller inner lobe. The inflorescence is 7–12 cm long, with pedicels 0.5–1 cm long and glandular hairs. The outer sepals are green and triangular-lanceolate, while the inner sepals are purple-red and ovate. Petals are oblong with rounded apices. Stamens are approximately 3 mm long, with yellow anthers about 2 mm in length.
