Echium amoenum, known as Iranian Borage, is a biennial or perennial herb native to northern Iran, the Caucasus, and southern Russia. It is used in traditional medicine for its demulcent, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anxiolytic, and sedative properties, particularly for treating the common cold.

Description

Echium amoenum (Fisch. & C.A.Mey.) is a member of the Boraginaceae family and is indigenous to the northern regions of Iran, the North Caucasus, and Transcaucasus. It grows at elevations between 60 and 2,200 meters. This species is an important herb in Iranian traditional medicine, where it is used for its therapeutic effects, including demulcent, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic actions. It is also employed as an anxiolytic and sedative. The species was first described in 1838.
