Sesamothamnus lugardii is a spiny shrub or small tree in the Pedaliaceae family, native to southern Africa. It is known by the common names Eastern sesame-bush and Transvaal sesame-bush, and locally as tshinonzhe in Venda. The species was first described in 1906 and is found in Botswana, Northern Provinces, and Zimbabwe.

Description

Sesamothamnus lugardii is a member of the Pedaliaceae family and is characterized as a succulent, spiny shrub or small tree. It is native to southern Africa and occurs in Botswana, Northern Provinces, and Zimbabwe. The plant is known by several common names, including Eastern sesame-bush, Transvaal sesame-bush, and sesambos. In the Venda language, it is referred to as tshinonzhe. The species was first described in 1906 by N.E.Br. ex Stapf.
