Khaya anthotheca, known as East African Mahogany, is a large tree species in the Meliaceae family. It is native to tropical Africa and has a wide distribution across several countries including Angola, Burundi, the Central African Republic, Congo, Sudan, Uganda, Zaïre, and Guinée forestière. First described in 1878, this species is part of the genus Khaya.

Description

Khaya anthotheca is a member of the Meliaceae family, commonly referred to as the mahogany family. It is indigenous to tropical regions of Africa and is recognized by its common name, East African Mahogany. The species was first published in 1878 under the authorship (Welw.) C.DC. It is found in several African countries, including Angola, Burundi, the Central African Republic, Congo, Sudan, Uganda, Zaïre, and Guinée forestière. This tree is a significant component of the forest ecosystems in these regions.
