Hymenaea verrucosa, commonly known as East African copal, is a flowering plant in the Fabaceae family. It is a large tree native to tropical East Africa and is cultivated in various tropical regions globally. The species is part of the subfamily Caesalpinioideae and is sometimes classified under the monospecific genus Trachylobium as Trachylobium verrucosum. Previously, it was also referred to as Trachylobium hornemannianum.

Description

Hymenaea verrucosa is a member of the legume family, Fabaceae, and is found in tropical regions of East Africa. It is a large tree that has been cultivated in tropical areas around the world. The species is currently placed within the genus Hymenaea, though some taxonomic treatments place it in the genus Trachylobium. It was previously known by the name Trachylobium hornemannianum. The plant is part of the subfamily Caesalpinioideae, which is considered paraphyletic.
