Geum vernum, known as Early Water Avens, is a herbaceous perennial plant native to the northeastern United States. It thrives in floodplains and rich woods, typically emerging in late spring. The species has been studied for its role in fruit evolution within allopolyploid Geum species and was used in the preparation of an antimicrobial substance in 1948.

Description

Geum vernum belongs to the genus Geum in the Rosaceae family. It is distributed across several regions in North America, including Ontario, Vermont, Alabama, and others. The species was first published in 1840 by (Raf.) Torr. & A.Gray. It is commonly referred to as Early Water Avens in English and is adapted to moist, forested environments.
