Mentzelia pumila, known as dwarf mentzelia, is a biennial wildflower native to the western United States and northwestern Mexico. It is part of the genus Mentzelia in the Loasaceae family. The plant is commonly referred to as a blazingstar and is also known as an evening star. It is found in states such as Colorado, Montana, and Wyoming, as well as in Sonora and Chihuahua.

Description

Mentzelia pumila is a member of the Loasaceae family and is known for its biennial growth habit. It is found in the western United States and northwestern Mexico, including Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, and extending south to Sonora and Chihuahua. The species is part of the Mentzelia genus, which includes plants commonly called stickleafs or blazingstars. Some species in the genus, including M. pumila, close their flowers at sunset. The plant was first described in 1840 by Torr. & A.Gray.
