Zostera japonica, commonly known as dwarf eelgrass, is a marine plant in the Zosteraceae family. It is native to the coasts of eastern Asia, ranging from Russia to Vietnam, and has been introduced to the western coast of North America. This species inhabits the intertidal and shallow subtidal zones, growing on sandy, muddy, and silty substrates.

Description

Zostera japonica is a seagrass species found in the Zosteraceae family. It is native to the coastal regions of eastern Asia, including Russia, Japan, Korea, China, and Vietnam. It has also been introduced to the western coast of North America, where it has been recorded in areas such as British Columbia, Washington, and California. This seagrass thrives in the intertidal and shallow subtidal zones, typically on sandy, muddy, or silty substrates. It was first described in 1907 by Asch. & Graebn.
