It is widely regarded as the sweetest durian species.
Description
Durio dulcis, also known as durian marangang, red durian, tutong, or lahung, is a tree native to the genus Durio. It is distributed globally, with a primary origin in Borneo. The species was first described in 1889 by Becc. The fruit is notable for its dark red to brown-red husk, covered in spines measuring 15–20 mm in length. Its flesh is dark yellow, thin, and has a deep caramel flavor, accompanied by a turpentine-like odor. The fruit is considered by many to be the sweetest among all durian species.
