Dieffenbachia seguine is a herbaceous plant that can reach a height of 1.5 meters. It has arching leaves with petioles that are typically 10–34.5 cm long, often marked with pale green or white. The leaf blades are ovate-lanceolate, 17–38.5 cm long and 10–20 cm wide, with a subcoriaceous texture and a medium-dark green coloration. The plant is native to the neotropical regions of the Americas, including southern Mexico, Central America, northern South America, and the Caribbean islands. It is also found on the Galápagos islands of Santa Cruz and San Cristóbal, likely introduced by humans. D. seguine was first described in 1832.
