Sesbania formosa, known as the dragon flowertree, is a leguminous tree native to northern Australia. Originally described in 1860 as Agati formosum by Ferdinand von Mueller, it was later reclassified into the genus Sesbania by Nancy Burbidge in 1965. The species is found in the Northern Territory, Queensland, and Western Australia.

Description

Sesbania formosa is a member of the Fabaceae family and is commonly called the dragon flowertree. It is native to northern Australia and was first documented from specimens collected along the Victoria and Fitzmaurice Rivers. The species was initially described in 1860 under the genus Agati by Ferdinand von Mueller. In 1965, Nancy Burbidge transferred it to the genus Sesbania, where it remains classified today. The tree is distributed across the Northern Territory, Queensland, and Western Australia.
