Galeopsis segetum, known as downy hemp-nettle, is a flowering plant in the Lamiaceae family. It is found as a weed in arable fields across Europe and is often mistaken for stinging nettle but lacks stinging hairs.

Description

Galeopsis segetum is a member of the Lamiaceae family and is commonly found as a weed in cultivated fields across Europe. It is distributed in several European countries, including Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, and Poland. Despite its resemblance to stinging nettle, it does not possess stinging hairs and is not related to the Urticaceae family. The species was first described in 1770 by Neck. It is known by the common name downy hemp-nettle in English and is part of the Galeopsis genus.
