Nymphaea ampla is a member of the Nymphaeaceae family and is found in areas such as the Santuario de Flora y Fauna Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta, as well as in the Nearctic and Neotropical regions. Its distribution includes locations like Cimitarra, Chocó, Córdoba, Cundinamarca, Magdalena, Andina, Llanura del Caribe, Pacífico, and Valle del Magdalena. It is also present in the Bahamas, Belize, Cayman Is., Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Florida, Guatemala, Guyana, and Haiti. This species was first published in 1821.
