It is native to north-east Queensland and is characterized by elliptic or egg-shaped leaves, white flowers with 5 stamens and 6 to 8 carpels, and feather-like fruits formed from achenes.
Description
Doryphora aromatica is a flowering plant species within the Atherospermataceae, a family commonly referred to as the Southern Sassafras Family. This tree is endemic to north-east Queensland. Its leaves are elliptic or egg-shaped with the narrower end at the base. The flowers are white, with 5 stamens and 6 to 8 carpels. The fruit is an achene that splits to release feather-like structures. The species was first described in 1958 by L.S.Sm., with the original name attributed to F.M.Bailey.
