Doryanthes palmeri, known as the giant spear lily, is a Vulnerable succulent perennial in the Doryanthaceae family. It is native to eastern Australia, specifically New South Wales and Queensland, and is one of two species in the genus Doryanthes. The plant forms a rosette of sword-shaped, hairless leaves up to 3 m long. In spring, it produces a tall flowering stalk that can reach 5 m in height. It is protected under the New South Wales Threatened Species Act (1995).

Description

Doryanthes palmeri is a member of the Doryanthaceae family and is one of two species in the genus Doryanthes. It is native to New South Wales and Queensland, where it grows as a rosette of sword-shaped, hairless leaves that can reach lengths of up to 3 m. The plant produces a tall flowering stalk in spring, which may grow as high as 5 m. The species is classified as Vulnerable under the New South Wales Threatened Species Act (1995). First described by W.Bull in 1873, it is an endemic species of eastern Australia.
