Dorstenia drakena L., a member of the Moraceae family, is native to Mexico and Central America. It was first described in 1759. The species is distributed across several regions in Mexico and various Central American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. The holotype was indicated by Berg as Houstoun s. n. (BM), but it is considered improbable that Linnaeus had access to this material. The existence of an original illustration complicates the status of the Houstoun collection as a neotype.

Description

Dorstenia drakena is a species within the genus Dorstenia of the Moraceae family. Its distribution spans multiple regions in Mexico and Central America. Linnaeus first published the species in 1759, but the original material he used is uncertain. Berg later cited Houstoun s. n. (BM) as the holotype, but the lack of direct access by Linnaeus to this specimen, combined with the presence of an original illustration, raises questions about the validity of the Houstoun collection as a neotype. This species is part of a broader discussion on the typification of Linnaean plant names.
