Diplopterys cabrerana is a shrub native to the Amazon Basin, found in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. It is known by various local names, including chaliponga, chagropanga, and in parts of Ecuador, chacruna.
Description
Diplopterys cabrerana, a member of the Malpighiaceae family, is distributed across the Amazon Basin, including regions in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. It is referred to as chaliponga or chagropanga in Quechua languages, and in certain areas of Ecuador, it is called chacruna, a name also used for Psychotria viridis. The species was published in 1979 under the authorship of B.Gates, with the original name credited to Cuatrec. It is part of the genus Diplopterys and is found in locations such as Parque Nacional Natural de Amacayacu, Amazonas, Putumayo, Vaupés, Brazil North, and Leticia.
