Zea diploperennis, known as diploperennial teosinte, is a perennial grass species in the genus Zea. It is a member of the Poaceae family and was first described in 1979 by Iltis, Doebley, and R.Guzmán. The species is found in regions including Caldas, Cauca, Cundinamarca, Manizales, and Jardín Botánico de Bogotá in Colombia, as well as in the Mexico Southwest. It is also present in global collections.

Description

Zea diploperennis is a perennial teosinte native to parts of Colombia and the Mexico Southwest. It belongs to the grass family Poaceae and is part of the Zea genus. The species was formally published in 1979 by Iltis, Doebley, and R.Guzmán. It is known by the common name diploperennial teosinte in both English and Spanish. Its distribution includes specific regions in Colombia and is also represented in global botanical collections.
