Abronia villosa is a species in the Nyctaginaceae family, native to sandy desert regions of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It is commonly known as desert sand verbena and grows in habitats such as creosote-bush and coastal-sage scrub. The species was first described in 1873 by S. Watson.

Description

Abronia villosa is a member of the Nyctaginaceae (four o'clock plant) family and is found in sandy desert areas of Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah, and northern Mexico. It is associated with creosote-bush and coastal-sage scrub ecosystems. The species was first published by S. Watson in 1873, based on a specimen collected in Arizona by Wheeler. The holotype is designated as GH 00037469, with additional isolectotypes identified. The plant is known by the common names desert sand verbena and chaparral sand-verbena.
