This species is commonly referred to as desert-bluegrass and is found in a range of locations including India, the Lesser Sunda Islands, New Guinea, New South Wales, the Northern Territory, the Philippines, Queensland, South Australia, and Western Australia. The species was formally published in 1934 by C.E.Hubb., following its original description by Domin.
