Nothofagus gunnii, known as deciduous beech, is a shrub or small tree native to Tasmania. It is found in alpine and sub-alpine regions at elevations above 800 meters. The species was published in 1871 and is limited to highland areas due to climatic constraints.

Description

Nothofagus gunnii is a member of the Nothofagaceae family and is commonly called tanglefoot or deciduous beech. It typically grows as a shrub or low tree up to 8 meters tall. The plant is restricted to the highlands of Tasmania, where it thrives in cold, alpine environments. Its shrubby form and dense growth give rise to its common name 'tanglefoot'.
