Dawsonia superba is a moss in the family Polytrichaceae, found in Australia, New Guinea, Malaysia, and New Zealand. It is the tallest self-supporting moss, reaching up to 60 cm in height.
Description
Dawsonia superba, described by Grev. in 1847, is a member of the genus Dawsonia. It possesses hydroid and leptoid cells for water and photosynthate transport, and lamellae for efficient photosynthesis. It belongs to the class Polytrichopsida and has a unique sporophyte compared to other hair-cap mosses.
