Peniocereus striatus, known as dahlia-rooted cactus, is a cactus species in the Cactaceae family. It is native to the Sonoran Desert, occurring in Baja California, Sinaloa, and Sonora in Mexico, as well as Arizona in the United States. The species was published in 1975 and is also referred to by other common names such as gearstem cactus, cardoncillo, jacamatraca, and sacamatraca.

Description

Peniocereus striatus is a member of the Cactaceae family and is commonly called dahlia-rooted cactus. This species is endemic to the Sonoran Desert region, where it is found in the Mexican states of Baja California, Sinaloa, and Sonora, as well as in Arizona, United States. The plant was formally described in 1975 and is recognized by several other common names, including gearstem cactus, cardoncillo, jacamatraca, and sacamatraca. Its distribution is limited to the arid environments of the Sonoran Desert.
