This species is distributed across several regions in Brazil, including the Northeast, Southeast, and West-Central areas, as well as in Paraguay. It was formally described in 1881 by the authors Rchb.f. & Warm. The genus Cyrtopodium is known for its terrestrial and epiphytic orchids, and C. vernum is one of the species within this group.
