Cynoglossum hispidum
Cynoglossum hispidum Thunb.

Cynoglossum hispidum is a species in the Boraginaceae family, native to southern Africa. It was first described by Thunb. in 1794 and is found in the Cape Provinces, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Lesotho, Northern Provinces, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe. The species is distinguished by its upright brittle hairs and a branching inflorescence pattern similar to C. lanceolatum. However, it differs in corolla color and pedicel length.
Description
Cynoglossum hispidum is characterized by its magenta-purplish corolla and pedicels that are 2 cm long. It can be confused with C. lanceolatum, which has a white corolla with a blue throat and pedicels less than 2 cm long. Both species share similar inflorescence branching and are covered in upright brittle hairs. These distinguishing features aid in the accurate identification of Cynoglossum hispidum within the genus.
