Zamia portoricensis is a species in the Zamiaceae family, native to the Susúa State Forest in western Puerto Rico. Commonly called Cycad, it is also known as marunguey in Puerto Rican Spanish. This plant is endemic to Puerto Rico and was first described in 1899 by author Urb.

Description

Zamia portoricensis is a member of the Zamiaceae family and is found exclusively in the Susúa State Forest region of western Puerto Rico. It is known locally as marunguey and is referred to as Cycad in English. The species was formally described in 1899 by the botanist Urb. As an endemic plant, it is not found naturally outside of Puerto Rico. It is part of the Cycad group, which includes ancient seed plants with a long evolutionary history.
