Encephalartos dolomiticus is a critically endangered cycad species native to the Wolkberg region in southeastern Limpopo Province, South Africa. It grows at elevations between 1100 and 1500 meters. The species is restricted to a very limited geographic area and is at high risk of extinction.
Description
Encephalartos dolomiticus, described by Lavranos & D.L. Goode in 1988, belongs to the family Zamiaceae. It is commonly known as the Wolkberg cycad. Its distribution is confined to the Wolkberg area near Penge in South Africa's Northern Provinces. This cycad is part of the Encephalartos genus and is one of the few cycad species found in Africa. Due to its restricted range and threats to its habitat, it is classified as critically endangered.
