Dioon caputoi is a cycad species in the Zamiaceae family, native to Puebla, Mexico. It is found near Loma de la Grana and is protected within the Tehuacán-Cuicatlán Biosphere Reserve. As of 2018, only five to six populations remain, with 50 to 120 individuals per population, totaling 2,000 to 2,500 mature plants. These are scattered in dry scrubland.
Description
Dioon caputoi, a species of the genus Dioon in the Zamiaceae family, is native to the state of Puebla, Mexico. It occurs near Loma de la Grana, 6 km southwest of San Luis Atolotitlán, Caltepec. The species is safeguarded by the Tehuacán-Cuicatlán Biosphere Reserve. By 2018, only five or six populations of this cycad remained in the wild. Each population consists of 50 to 120 individuals, mostly adults, and is randomly distributed in dry scrubland. The total number of mature individuals is estimated at 2,000 to 2,500.
