It is distributed across several countries including the Andaman Islands, Bangladesh, Borneo, Cambodia, China's southern regions, Hainan, Java, Malaya, Myanmar, the Nicobar Islands, the Philippines, Sulawesi, Sumatra, Thailand, and Vietnam. The species was first described in 1811 by W.T. Aiton, based on work by Dryand. ex W.T. Aiton.
