Potamogeton crispus is an aquatic plant in the family Potamogetonaceae, native to Eurasia but introduced to North America where it is considered a noxious weed. It is commonly known as Crisp Pondweed and was first described in 1753 by Linnaeus.
Description
Potamogeton crispus, also known as curly pondweed or curled pondweed, is an aquatic plant found in various regions including Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and Saskatchewan in Canada, as well as in parts of Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas. It was first described in 1753 by Linnaeus, with the specific epithet spelled 'crispum' in the original publication. This species is native to Eurasia but has been introduced to North America, where it is often considered an invasive species.
