Agropyron desertorum, known as crested wheatgrass, is a species in the Poaceae family. It is native to the steppes of Russia and Siberia and was introduced to the United States between 1907 and 1913. Initially, it was thought to be distinct from Desert wheatgrass, but they are now recognized as the same species. The plant is now found in the Central and Western United States, excluding Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Oklahoma, and Washington.
Description
Agropyron desertorum (Fisch. ex Link) Schult. is a member of the grass family, Poaceae. It was first described in 1824 and has a wide distribution that includes regions in Russia, Central Europe, China, and the United States. It is known by the common name crested wheatgrass and has been cultivated in various parts of North America for forage and soil stabilization.
