Lantana montevidensis, known as creeping lantana, is a species native to South America. It spreads as dense ground-covering thickets and mats. Common names include trailing lantana, weeping lantana, and purple lantana.

Description

Lantana montevidensis (Spreng.) Briq. is a member of the Verbenaceae family and is native to South America. It is commonly referred to as creeping lantana and is also known by names such as trailing lantana, weeping lantana, small lantana, purple lantana, and trailing shrubverbena. This species is widely distributed across regions including Brazil, the Azores, Spain, India, China, Australia, the Galápagos Islands, East Africa, Taiwan, Hawaii, and the United States. It was first described in 1904 and is characterized by its ability to form dense thickets and mats on the ground.
