Couratari macrosperma is a member of the Lecythidaceae family, a group of flowering plants primarily native to the Neotropics. The species was first documented in 1933 by A.C.Sm. Its geographic range spans across several regions in Brazil, including the Northeast, North, Southeast, and West-Central, as well as in Bolivia and the Parque Nacional Natural Serranía de Chiribiquete in Colombia.
