Its distribution spans several regions in Colombia, including Boyacá, Santa María, Parque Nacional Natural Sierra de la Macarena, Tona, Caquetá, Cundinamarca, Magdalena, Meta, and Santander, as well as Villavicencio. It is also found in Ecuador and Venezuela. This species is part of the Gesneriaceae, a family of flowering plants commonly known as the African violet family.
