Spergula arvensis is an annual plant in the Caryophyllaceae family, native to Europe, Macaronesia, Siberia, northwestern India, northwestern Africa, and the highlands of eastern tropical Africa. It is commonly known as Corn Spurrey and was first described in 1753 by L.

Description

Spergula arvensis, also known as Corn Spurrey, is an annual plant belonging to the Caryophyllaceae family. It is native to regions including Europe, Macaronesia, Siberia, northwestern India, northwestern Africa, and the highlands of eastern tropical Africa. The plant is widely distributed across North America, including Greenland, Labrador, Newfoundland, Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Northwest Territories, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Saskatchewan, Yukon, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, and is also found in Açores, Madeira, Portugal Continental, BR, Faial Island, and Flores Island. First described in 1753 by L., it is a member of the Spergula genus.
