Coprosma meyeri is a shrub reaching 2–3 m in height, with sparsely villous young stems. Leaves are opposite, thick-coriaceous, oblanceolate, 4–7.2 cm long and 1.2–2 cm wide, with a glabrous surface and an acuminate to acute apex. Petioles are approximately 0.1 cm long. Stipules are 2.5–3 mm long, mostly connate, glabrous, with a dentate margin and a few conspicuous colleters. Inflorescences are axillary, trichotomously branched, with 6–12 subsessile flowers. Male flowers have a campanulate calyx and a narrowly funnelform corolla. Female flowers, fruits, and pyrenes are unknown.
